593 tasty words about me

(FEEL FREE TO SKIM A LOT OF IT, I'll never know)

Hey hey, I’m Kim and thanks for exploring my little online world.

Because you’re the most fabulous nosey parker and you’re hankering for the down low, I’ll tell you a bit about me.

Yes I’m a singing coach but I’m not really your run-of-the-mill, singing teacher.

What lights me up is who you want to BECOME.

What you want to use your voice FOR.

When I was learning to sing in my teens and early 20s I wasn’t asked my opinion about anything.

I was told to breathe like this.

I was told to sound more like that.

I was told what songs I’d sing, what exams I’d take and what competitions I’d enter.

I was told to sound less like that.

I was given extremely confusing instructions that made no sense to me (but I was too nervous to say so).

Which was like taking a chainsaw to my confidence.

But the silver lining is that I knew how I didn’t want to teach.

I knew I wanted every student to be seen as a human with emotions and fears and a life outside of the studio first and a singer second.

I knew it was my job to take complicated vocal technique concepts and help them make sense to people.

I knew it was my job to remind singers that it’s THEIR voice and they get to make choices about how to express it.

I got into teaching because I nearly gave up on my voice and my creative dreams.

And I never wanted that to happen to anyone else because of lack of support.

I got into teaching because I felt completely lost and broken when I was learning.

And I never wanted anyone else to experience that in their lessons.

I didn't just want to give technical advice each and every week. I wanted to inspire people, show them that they can do more than they ever thought possible and help them to feel more courageous and motivated.

I teach because there are too many singers out there beating themselves up because "they're too stupid to get it".

I teach because there are a boatload of people that need encouragement and that little push to help them take a leap of faith and start improving their voice.

I teach because I am passionate about showing people that they can sing despite what their brother/aunt/choir teacher in Grade 3 told them.

I teach because there's nothing I'd rather do than to help my students develop as singers and as people.

If I get your personal seal of approval but you'd like to take it slow and get to know my teaching style a little, head on over to Start Here.

If you're keen to just jump in and start dating (coach with me one on one or take one of my courses), take a peek at the Singing Lessons page or Online Training page to explore how we can work together.

I'm also available to answer any of your questions even if you think they're silly (which they're not) and help you decide the best plan of attack, so if you'd like to contact me, don't be shy!
